In 1996, Chris Dekker, an Australian, now based in Oregon USA, founded a movement that has since captured the hearts and minds of people around the world.
Today, Earthdance is a global movement which unites socially and environmentally conscious people in more than 50 countries around the world in a celebration of peace and community. Each year the event raises a significant amount of money for charities, the work of which supports the achievement of Earthdance objectives.

The climax of the global event is a synchronized dance floor link-up when DJ's at each event across the world synchronize their turntables and play the specially produced song "A Prayer For Peace" at exactly the same time. The result is a deeply felt shared experience and a profound moment of global unity and peace.

In a world where so many young people feel isolated, voiceless and disenchanted with the values of political and business leaders, Earthdance unites communities in a beautifully simple expression of peace and creativity. It is a return to the source - an acknowledgement of the values which form the basis of a harmonious global community.

Produced by a collective of promoters and organisations around the world, each individual Earthdance event is guided by Earthdance International but organised and funded locally with outcomes directed at local needs and issues. Earthdance Association Incorporated is the official representative of Earthdance International in Australia and produces the major Melbourne and Sydney events with the support of local community members. In Australia, independent Earthdance events are held in Sydney, Melbourne, Byron Bay, Adelaide, Cairns and Perth. Each event is managed separately as a local initiative and with local themes.

Watch out for it next year!
